The Value of Site Visits

Spending time on site remains one of the most effective ways to understand the realities of a project. During a recent visit across sites in Norfolk, we had the opportunity to meet both clients and candidates in their working environment, gaining a perspective that cannot be achieved from behind a desk.

In an industry driven by conversations, data, and delivery timelines, it is easy to rely heavily on calls and digital communication. However, seeing a project in action provides a different level of insight. It allows for a clearer understanding of not just the roles required, but how those roles interact, where pressure points exist, and what successful delivery actually looks like on site.

One of the most notable observations was the level of coordination involved. Large-scale energy and infrastructure projects rely on alignment between multiple contractors, disciplines, and teams. Each operates with its own challenges and deadlines, yet all must come together to deliver a shared outcome.

The scale and complexity of these projects also highlight the importance of having the right people in place. From early planning through to execution, even minor gaps in resource or communication can have a significant impact on delivery.

What stands out most, however, is the people behind the projects. Every programme, timeline, and milestone is driven by individuals working under pressure to keep progress on track. Understanding their day-to-day challenges provides a far more accurate picture of what is required to support both clients and candidates effectively.

Time spent on site adds context. It sharpens judgement, improves the quality of conversations, and leads to better-informed decisions. In construction, engineering, and energy markets, it reinforces a simple point, while technology enables speed, experience on the ground delivers real understanding.
