Project Completion: The Gherkin
RTL Contracting are proud to announce the successful completion of our strip-out works at 30 St Mary Axe, one of London’s most iconic commercial landmarks.
Delivered on time, within budget, and with a 100% recycling rate achieved, this project reflects the high standards of planning, coordination, and execution that our teams bring to every scheme.
The project comprised the full strip-out of six floors within the building, with works carefully phased and managed to maintain programme deadlines while operating within the constraints of a busy live City environment. Due to the location and logistical challenges associated with central London access, detailed coordination was required throughout the duration of the project to ensure works progressed safely and efficiently.
The scope of works included:
Full M&E strip-out
Partition and internal dismantling works
Glazing removal
Floor finish and carpet removal
Welfare and shower removals
T-point and service disconnections
Waste segregation and management
Soft strip and preparation works across multiple floors
From initial mobilisation through to final completion, our team maintained a strong focus on programme delivery, health & safety, cleanliness, and sustainability. One of the standout achievements of the project was the successful attainment of a 100% recycling rate, ensuring that all waste generated throughout the works was diverted from landfill through responsible recycling and recovery methods.
Projects within landmark commercial buildings require more than just demolition and strip-out expertise. They demand careful logistical planning, communication between multiple stakeholders, strict adherence to building requirements, and the ability to deliver within challenging access and operational restrictions. This project was a strong example of that collaborative approach in action.
