Job description

​I am working alongside a regional civil engineering business based out of Yorkshire. Due to an increase in their order book they are looking to onboard a general foreman for a new project being delivered in Barnsley. My client deliver schemes within the highway, water and utility sectors. 

General foreman responsibilities: 

  • Supervision of Site Activities
    Oversees daily construction operations to ensure tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and according to plan.

  • Team Management
    Manages and coordinates the work of foremen, tradespeople, and labourers on site.

  • Project Scheduling
    Ensures work is performed according to the construction schedule and adjusts manpower or resources as needed.

  • Quality Control
    Monitors work to make sure it meets the specified quality standards and project specifications.

  • Health and Safety Enforcement
    Enforces safety protocols, conducts toolbox talks, and ensures the team complies with occupational health and safety regulations.

  • Material and Equipment Coordination
    Ensures materials, equipment, and tools are available and correctly used on site.

  • Liaison with Engineers and Project Managers
    Communicates regularly with project managers and site engineers to relay progress, resolve issues, and receive instructions.

  • Problem Solving
    Addresses on-site issues such as equipment breakdowns, unexpected site conditions, or delays, and implements solutions.

  • Progress Reporting
    Prepares or contributes to daily or weekly reports on work progress, manpower, and any delays or issues.

  • Training and Mentoring
    Provides on-the-job training and guidance to less experienced workers and ensures adherence to best practices.

General foreman requirements: 

  • Right to work in the UK.

  • NVQ level 3 or equivalent.

  • CSCS card.

  • SSSTS/ SMSTS.

  • First aid. 

  • EUSR - 1 & 2.

  • Experience with highways, drainage and civils.

  • Full UK driving licence.
