Job description

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Mechanical Contracts Manager with a strong background in managing residential and commercial mechanical projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and completion of HVAC, plumbing, and associated mechanical works. The role requires ensuring that all projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards while complying with all relevant health and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage multiple mechanical contracts across residential and commercial projects from pre-construction through to final handover.

  • Lead project teams, including engineers, supervisors, and subcontractors.

  • Coordinate with clients, consultants, and main contractors to ensure alignment on project scope and timelines.

  • Monitor project progress, resolve issues, and mitigate risks to ensure timely delivery.

  • Prepare, review, and manage project budgets, cost reports, and valuations.

  • Conduct site visits and inspections to ensure compliance with design specifications and safety standards.

  • Ensure all works are carried out in accordance with local codes, regulations, and company procedures.

  • Manage procurement of materials, equipment, and subcontractors.

  • Lead project meetings and produce regular progress reports for stakeholders.

  • Support business development by providing input on bids and tenders where needed.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, or Construction Management.

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in a mechanical contracts management role.

  • Proven track record in managing both residential (e.g., apartment complexes, housing developments) and commercial (e.g., office blocks, retail units, hotels)projects.

  • Strong understanding of HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical building services systems.

  • Solid knowledge of construction contracts such as JCT, NEC, or similar.

  • Excellent budgeting, reporting, and financial acumen.

  • Effective leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Proficiency in MS Office, project management software (e.g., MS Project, Asta), and AutoCAD or Revit is desirable.

  • Valid UK driving license (or applicable for your region).

Desirable Skills:

  • SMSTS / SSSTS qualification.

  • IOSH or NEBOSH Health & Safety certification.

  • Experience working with M&E subcontractors and main contractors.

  • Knowledge of BIM processes and coordination.
