Job description
RTL Group are seeking an engineer to work on a marine civils project in the heart of Newhaven.
As a Site Engineer, you will play a key role in setting out, surveying, and ensuring the technical delivery of marine civils projects. You’ll be working closely with the site and project management team to deliver schemes safely, accurately, and to programme – typically involving quay walls, piling, jetties, sea defences, and marine structures.
Key Responsibilities
Setting out and surveying for marine civils activities
Interpreting drawings and specifications to ensure works are built to standard
Assisting with quality assurance, ITPs, and site documentation
Liaising with subcontractors and the wider site team to ensure smooth operations
Monitoring progress, reporting to the Site Manager and Project Engineer
Ensuring works comply with health and safety regulations and environmental controls
Coordinating materials and plant deliveries in line with project schedules
Supporting the implementation of temporary works and engineering solutions on site
Requirements
Degree or HND in Civil Engineering or related discipline
Experience working as a Site Engineer on marine or heavy civils projects
Proficient in setting out using GPS, total station, and AutoCAD
Understanding of marine-specific risks such as tides, water ingress, and temporary works
CSCS card essential; SSSTS or SMSTS advantageous
Strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills
Willingness to travel and stay away where required for project delivery
