Site Manager – Groundworks

Location: Kent
Duration: 2 years (freelance / contract)
Start date: Immediate
Rate: Competitive day rate (DOE)

The Role:

We are seeking an experienced Site Manager to oversee a long-term groundworks and civil engineering project. The successful candidate will manage daily site operations, coordinate subcontractors, ensure health and safety compliance, and maintain progress in line with programme and quality expectations.

This is a freelance position for approximately 24 months, offering an excellent opportunity for a proactive Site Manager to take ownership of a significant infrastructure development from start to completion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day site operations for groundworks, RC and civils packages

  • Supervise and coordinate subcontractors and site teams

  • Monitor progress against programme and report to the project manager

  • Ensure all works comply with health and safety regulations and company procedures

  • Conduct regular site inspections, risk assessments, and quality checks

  • Liaise with clients, engineers, and local authorities as required

  • Maintain accurate site records, including permits, diaries, and RAMS

Requirements

  • Proven experience managing groundworks or civil engineering projects (foundations, drainage, roads, RC, utilities, etc.)

  • SMSTS, CSCS, and First Aid certificates (essential)

  • Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills

  • Ability to drive programmes and motivate teams to achieve deadlines

  • Must be able to start immediately

  • Freelance / Ltd company or CIS accepted

Package

  • Freelance day rate: Negotiable (depending on experience)

  • Start date: Immediate

  • Contract length: Approx. 24 months
