Job Title: Site Engineer – Shafts & Tunnelling
Location: Basingstoke
Contract Length: 12 Months
Rate: £350 – £400 per day (Outside IR35)
Start Date: ASAP

About the Role:
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Site Engineer to support a shafts and tunnelling package on a major infrastructure scheme based in Basingstoke. This 12-month freelance role offers a fantastic opportunity to work on technically challenging and rewarding underground works within the utilities sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Setting out and surveying for deep shaft construction, SCL/NATM works, and associated tunnelling activities

  • Ensuring accurate dimensional control and technical compliance across all site works

  • Assisting with the coordination of subcontractors and tunnelling specialists

  • Producing method statements, ITPs, risk assessments, and QA documentation

  • Monitoring progress and ensuring work is carried out safely, to programme, and within specifications

  • Supporting temporary works implementation and installation checks

Requirements:

  • Proven experience on shaft sinking, tunnelling or major civils/infrastructure projects

  • Degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or related discipline

  • CSCS card (essential)

  • TSTS/SMSTS, Temporary Works Coordinator/ Supervisor (desirable)

  • Strong knowledge of AutoCAD, setting out instruments (total station/GPS), and geotechnical awareness
