Site Manager – Groundworks / Civils / Section 278 Works 
Location: Newcastle

We are recruiting for an experienced Site Manager to lead a high-profile groundworks, civils and S278 project in a commercial environment in Newcastle. The role offers long-term freelance work for a manager with strong technical knowledge and exceptional leadership skills.

Role Overview:
You will be responsible for the full day-to-day management of site operations, ensuring the safe, efficient and compliant delivery of all civils, 278 works and groundworks packages. This includes managing teams on the ground, coordinating with multiple stakeholders and keeping the programme on track in a fast-moving, public-facing setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage all on-site activities, ensuring work is delivered to specification, on time and within quality standards

  • Plan daily and weekly tasks, allocate labour and supervise subcontractors to maintain productivity

  • Ensure stringent health & safety compliance, carrying out site inductions, toolbox talks and regular inspections

  • Interface with local authorities, utilities providers, residents, businesses and the general public

  • Manage traffic management requirements and maintain safe access around the works

  • Keep accurate site records, RAMS, progress reports and daily diaries

  • Problem-solve on site, mitigating risk and resolving technical or logistical issues

  • Support the delivery team with commercial, programme and quality objectives

Requirements:

  • Extensive experience delivering civils, 278 works and groundworks projects

  • Strong competency working in live, public environments with excellent communication and diplomacy

  • NRSWA Supervisor accreditation – essential

  • Ability to lead teams, plan ahead and maintain high standards under pressure

  • Solid understanding of drainage, kerbing, ducting, utilities interfaces and general infrastructure works

  • Up-to-date knowledge of CDM regulations and site management best practice

  • Available to start immediately and commit to a long-term project
