Job Summary
The Mechanical Project Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing mechanical construction projects from pre-construction through closeout. This role manages HVAC, plumbing, piping, and related mechanical systems for commercial and residential projects, ensuring work is completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with contract documents, codes, and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management
Manage mechanical scopes for commercial and residential construction projects
Develop project schedules, budgets, and work plans
Coordinate project activities with owners, general contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers
Track project progress and adjust schedules and resources as needed
Conduct regular job site meetings and progress reviews
Technical & Construction Oversight
Review and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and contracts
Oversee installation of HVAC, plumbing, piping, and mechanical systems
Ensure compliance with local codes, safety regulations, and quality standards
Coordinate inspections and resolve field issues and design conflicts
Support commissioning and system startup
Financial Management
Prepare and manage project budgets, cost forecasts, and cash flow
Review subcontractor bids, change orders, and pay applications
Track labor, material, and equipment costs
Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)
3–7+ years of experience managing mechanical construction projects
Experience with both commercial and residential projects preferred
Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
Skills & Abilities
Strong leadership and organizational skills
Excellent communication and negotiation abilities
Proficiency in project management software (Procore, MS Project, or similar)
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Work Environment
Combination of office and active construction job sites
Occasional travel to project locations
May require extended hours to meet project deadlines
Preferred
Professional certifications (PMP, PE, LEED, etc.)
Experience with design-build projects
Knowledge of energy-efficient and sustainable mechanical systems
